Ohio Wesleyan 18, Muskingum 4

Junior outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland) cracked a 2-run double to highlight a 6-run first inning and freshman first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) and freshman outfielder Wes Desmond (Frisco, Texas/MacArthur) slammed home runs to lead Ohio Wesleyan over Muskingum in non-conference play on Sunday in New Concord.

The Bishops raced to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first as
sophomore shortstop Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) singled and junior second baseman Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) doubled. Toney followed with a double to score both runners, and junior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside, Ill./Nazareth Academy) followed with yet another double to plate Toney. Dote then beat out a single to third base, with Hall scoring on a throwing error by Muskie third baseman Frank Hibbits on the play. Senior catcher Matt Strasburg (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) then reached on a throwing error by Muskingum catcher Adam Long, and the runners moved to second and third on a wild pitch. Freshman outfielder Josh Wheeler (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) plated Dote with an infield grounder and Desmond drove home Strasburg with a sacrifice fly.

Ohio Wesleyan added 4 more runs in the third. Dote led off the frame with a homer, then Strasburg single
d, moved to second on a sacrifice and took third on an infield out. After freshman outfielder Brent Wilkins (Fairview Park/Fairview) walked, Strasburg scored on a wild pitch, with Wilkins moving to second. Sherman then walked, moved to second on Long's throwing error and went to third on a fielding error by Muskie rightfielder Shawn Galloway, with Wilkins scoring on the play. Williams then walked and Toney singled home Sherman for a 10-0 Bishop lead.

Muskingum got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Greg King and an RBI single by Galloway.

The Bishops came back in the fourth on walks to Hall and Strasburg before Desmond belted a 3-run shot to give Ohio Wesleyan a 13-2 lead. Desmond added an RBI double in the sixth and Strasburg ripped a bases-loaded triple in the ninth to wrap up the Ohio Wesleyan scoring.

Desmond went 2-for-4 with 5 RBI to spearhead the Ohio Wesleyan offense. Strasburg was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and scored 4 times, while Toney was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI. Sherman, Hall and Wheeler also had 2 hits apiece.

ophomore righthander Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson) pitched the first 3.0 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs, and was credited with the win. Junior lefthander Josh Nice (Hinckley/Highland) pitched 3.0 innings, allowing 4 hits and an unearned run. Junior righthander Billy Kampmann (Blairstown, NJ/Blair Academy) worked the final 3.0 innings, allowing 3 hits and one run, and was credited with a save.

Galloway went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI to highlight the Muskingum offense.
