Sept. 8, 2004
Junior
attacker Taneen Legree (Christiana,
Pa./Octorara)
scored midway through the first half and the Battling Bishop defense made
the lead stand in the second half as Ohio Wesleyan upended Earlham in
North Coast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at the Henry Street
Field.
Legree
took the ball from midfield toward the Quaker goal and beat Earlham keeper
Anna Benfield with a shot with 16:56 left in the first half.
The Quakers, who did not have a shot during the first half, threatened
during the second half, earning 6 penalty corners and taking 5 shots.
Earlham's best chance came with 14 minutes left in regulation time when
Susanna Curry fired a hard shot off a penalty corner, but Bishop keeper
Katie Jones (Pine Plains, N.Y./Stissing Mountain) was there for the kick
save.
The
Quakers outshot the Bishops, 5-4. Jones finished with 3 saves in notching
her first collegiate shutout. Benfield
