Oberlin
1, Ohio Wesleyan 0
Sept. 15, 2004
Jaime
Johnson scored the game-winning goal midway through the first overtime
period to give Oberlin a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio
Wesleyan on Wednesday at the Henry Street Field.
Freshman
Katie Jones (Pine Plains, N.Y./Stissing Mountain) had preserved the shutout
with a pair of acrobatic saves, robbing Oberlin's Rosemary Mudry late
in the first half and then Christine Politis midway through the second
half.
Ohio Wesleyan's best chance to score came in the first half, when junior
midfielder Jori Bos (Columbus/Chapel Hill, N.C.) got the ball near the
left post after a Bishop corner, but her shot was blocked by Oberlin keeper
Lauren Malinowski.
The deciding goal came with 6:22 left in the first overtime period. Oberlin
was awarded a corner after the ball hit an Ohio Wesleyan player inside
the circle. Johnson received the ball near the top of the circle, moved
to her left to elude a Bishop defender and hit a shot to the right side
of the cage.
Oberlin outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 17-2. Jones finished with 11 saves, while
Malinowski had 2 saves for the Yeowomen.
