Wabash 72, Ohio Wesleyan 46

Andrew Zimmer had 8 points to highlight a 15-3 first-half run that put Wabash ahead to stay in a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Bishops had taken a 12-10 lead on a lay-in by freshman post Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs) with 11:21 left in the first half before Zimmer tied the game at 12-12 with a pair of free throws with 10:27 remaining.

Kyle Coffey followed with a jumper and Zimmer added a pair of lay-ins sandwiched around a Rudegeair free throw, giving the Little Giants an 18-13 edge with 7:47 left in the half. Kyle Medeiros added a 3-pointer for a 21-13 Wabash lead with 5:46 left in the period.

Sophomore post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) hit a lay-in with 5:01 left, ending the Bishop drought at 6 minutes without a basket, but Coffey and Zimmer added baskets to increase the Wabash lead to 25-15 with 2:49 left in the half.

The Bishops rallied to within 27-21 at halftime on Rudegeair's basket in the closing seconds, and made it 27-23 on a pair of free throws by sophomore wing Ted Uritus (Columbus/Watterson) early in the second half, but Wabash answered with an 11-0 burst that featured a pair of lay-ins by Gary Simkus and a 3-pointer and a layup by Medeiros, increasing its lead to 38-23, and the Bishops would come no closer than 10 points.

Junior wing Andy Warnock (Delaware/Hayes) led the Bishops with 11 points. Chojnacki, Uritus and senior wing Tyler Reed (Marysville/Fairbanks) shared the team lead with 6 rebounds apiece, and Reed and senior guard Bryan King (Sidney) had 2 assists apiece.

Zimmer led the Little Giants with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Medeiros finished with 14 points and Coffey had 11 points. Adonis Joseph and Caleb Lyttle had 4 assists apiece.
