Ohio Wesleyan 81, Hiram 68

Sophomore wing Ted Uritus (Columbus/Watterson) buried a pair of 3-pointers to highlight an 8-0 spurt that broke open a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Hiram on Saturday at Hiram.

Hiram had pulled to within 60-56 on a 3-pointer by A.J. White with 6:52 left in regulation time.

Uritus followed with a 3-pointer on Ohio Wesleyan's next possession, and after a Terrier turnover, sophomore post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) hit a lay-in. The Bishops forced a shot clock violation on Hiram's next possession, and Uritus followed with another 3-pointer to hike the Bishop lead to 68-56 with 5:21 to go.

The Terriers would close to within 75-66 on Chuck Williams' 3-pointer with 1:55 left, but that was the only time the Bishop lead would shrink to less than 10 points.

Ohio Wesleyan trailed only twice during the first half and the Bishops led, 42-36, at halftime as sophomore wing David Yuskewich (Columbus/Watterson) hit a lay-in just before the buzzer.

Hiram stormed back to score the first 7 points of the second half to take a 43-42 lead. Williams hit a 3-pointer, White had a pair of free throws and DaJuan Whiteside sank a lay-in to put Hiram ahead just over a minute into the period.

The Terriers still led, 49-47, when senior guard Bryan King (Sidney) buried a 3-pointer to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay at 50-49 with 15:43 left in regulation time. King's long-range bomb kicked off a 13-2 run that saw Chojnacki and Uritus contribute 2 baskets apiece and gave the Bishops a 60-51 lead with 9:43 left.

Chojnacki led the Bishops with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Uritus followed with 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting, junior wing Andy Warnock (Delaware/Hayes) added 16 points and King finished with 13 points. Yuskewich also shared the team lead with 4 assists.

Carlton Dean led the Terriers with 27 points and shared the team lead with 6 rebounds. White and Williams finished with 12 points apiece, Whiteside also shared the team lead with 6 rebounds and Allen Kirkpatrick and Rick Baldwin had 3 assists apiece.
