Wabash 60, Ohio Wesleyan 53

Kyle Medeiros scored 5 straight points to kick off an 8-0 run that put Wabash ahead to stay and the Little Giants held on to take a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday in Crawfordsville, Ind.

Ohio Wesleyan had broken a 41-41 tie with a lay-up and a free throw by freshman post Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs), the latter giving the Bishops a 44-41 lead with 8:08 left in regulation time.

After senior guard Bryan King (Sidney) scored for Ohio Wesleyan and Kyle Coffey and Medeiros had baskets for Wabash, Rudegeair followed with a 3-pointer that gave the Bishops a 49-45 lead with 6:05 to play.

Medeiros started the Wabash run by sinking 3 straight free throws after he was fouled on a shot outside the arc. Medeiros followed with a jumper with 3:35 to go and Coffey hit the first of 2 free throws, then followed with a jumper that gave Wabash a 53-49 lead with 1:56 remaining.

Ohio Wesleyan answered with a tip-in by junior wing Andy Warnock (Delaware/Hayes) to slice the deficit to 2 points with 1:13 to go, but Wabash got a 3-pointer by Adonis Joseph with :40 left to take a 56-51 lead.

Sophomore post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) brought the Bishops within 56-53 with a lay-in with :22 left, but Wabash went 4-for-4 from the line during the final seconds to seal the win.

King led the Bishops with 14 points, while Rudegeair finished with 13 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds. King, Rudegeair and Chojnacki each had 2 assists for the Bishops.

Medeiros led the Little Giants with 16 points and Coffey had 13 points. Gary Simkus led Wabash with 6 rebounds and David Wagner had a team-high 3 assists.
