Bill Cullom scored 5 points and Jake Beck added 4 during a
13-0 run that lifted Capital over Ohio Wesleyan in action on the first
day of the NCAC/OAC Challenge on Saturday at Capital University in Columbus.
Junior wing Andy Warnock (Delaware/Hayes) had buried a 3-pointer to tie
the game at 42-42 with 8:25 to play. Beck broke the tie with a 3-pointer,
but sophomore post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) answered with a bucket for the
Bishops. Beck and Chojnacki traded baskets again, leaving Capital holding
on to a 47-46 lead with 6:00 left in regulation time.
Cullom hit a 3-pointer to start the Capital run, and baskets by David
Johnson and Beck followed before Cullom scored again. Beck and Eric Rosenbeck
added buckets to give the Crusaders a 60-46 lead with 1:34 to play.
Warnock drained a pair of 3-pointers to help the Bishops come within 64-56
with :38 to play, but that was as close as Ohio Wesleyan would come.
Warnock led the Bishops with 22 points and Chojnacki finished with 17
points and a team-high 6 rebounds. Senior guard Bryan King (Sidney) dished
out a team-leading 5 assists.
Beck led the Crusaders with 15 points, Johnson added 14 points and grabbed
a team-high 7 rebounds and David Kalb had 10 points. Cullom led Capital
with 5 assists.
