Ohio Wesleyan 6, Washington (Md.) 5

Senior midfielder Brian Small (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) scored the game-winning goal 54 seconds into the first overtime period to lift Ohio Wesleyan over sixth-ranked Washington College in non-conference action on Wednesday at Chestertown, Md.

Sophomore attacker Brian McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover) had tied the game at 5-5, scoring off a feed from junior midfielder Chris Riehl (Columbus/Upper Arlington) with 4:20 left in the third quarter, and neither team scored during the final 19 minutes of regulation time.

The Bishops got on the board first when senior attacker John Schlegel (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) scored off an assist from McCommons with 10:06 left in the opening quarter. Washington tied the game on Andrew Ostrusky's man-up goal less than 2 minutes later, but the Bishops answered with a man-up goal by freshman attacker Nick Gallagher (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) with 3:30 left to give Ohio Wesleyan a 2-1 lead after one quarter.

Junior midfielder Kevin Lakani (Riverwoods, Ill./Loyola Academy) scored 54 seconds into the second quarter to give the Bishops a 3-1 lead, but Jon Spivey scored a pair of goals less than a minute apart to tie the game at 3-3 early in the period.

Schlegel gave the Bishops a 4-3 halftime lead with a goal with 2:26 to go in the half, but Spivey tied the score once again with a goal with 8:53 left in the third quarter, then gave the Shoremen their only lead of the game with a goal with 6:41 left in the period to make the score 5-4, Washington.

Schlegel led the Bishops with 2 goals and an assist, while McCommons finished with a goal and 2 assists.

Senior Paul McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover) had 18 saves in the Bishop goal, while senior midfielder Seth McNally (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) won 11 of 15 face-offs.

Kevin Thibadeau made 9 saves for Washington.
