Ohio Wesleyan 8, Cabrini 7

Sophomore attacker Brian McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover) scored to break a 6-6 tie and put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay and senior attacker John Schlegel (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) added an insurance goal as the Bishops defeated Cabrini in non-conference action on Saturday at Villanova University in Philadelphia.

With the Bishops trailing, 5-4, midway through the third quarter, Schlegel scored back-to-back goals in a span of :07 to give Ohio Wesleyan a 6-5 lead.

Paul Middleton scored for Cabrini to tie the game at 6-6 with 5:47 left in the third period, but McCommons' goal with :36 left in the quarter put the Bishops on top for good.

Schlegel's goal with 3:43 extended the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 8-6, allowing the Bishops to withstand a Middleton goal with 1:41 left.

The Bishop defense took over from there, preventing the Cavaliers from getting off a shot in the final minute of action.

Schlegel led the Bishops with 3 goals, while senior midfielder Jason Balmer (Park City, Utah/Forman School (Conn.)) added 2 goals. McCommons finished with a goal and an assist and junior attacker Jarred Law (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) had 2 assists.

Middleton had 4 goals and Mark Phillips added 2 goals for the Cavaliers.

Senior Paul McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover) had 10 saves in the Bishop goal.

Kevin Quinn made 13 saves for Cabrini.
