Ohio Wesleyan 16, Kenyon 2

April 13, 2005

[ Jarred Law ]Junior attacker Jarred Law (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) scored twice as Ohio Wesleyan broke open a defensive battle by erupting for 5 goals in the first 3 minutes of the third quarter and went on to defeat Kenyon in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at Selby Field.

Ohio Wesleyan had taken a 2-1 lead late in the first quarter on a goal by sophomore attacker Brian McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover).

The Bishop defense clamped down after that, holding Kenyon without a shot during the second quarter. Meanwhile, Ohio Wesleyan got goals from senior attacker John Schlegel (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) and freshman midfielder Chris Eccles (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) in the period to take a 4-1 halftime lead.

Ohio Wesleyan opened the third quarter with a man-up situation that carried over from the end of the first half, and Law converted the chance just 22 seconds into the period.

Kenyon was called for another penalty on the ensuing face-off, and the Bishops converted again, this time with a goal from freshman attacker Nick Gallagher (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) off a McCommons feed.

Shortly thereafter, the Bishops broke the game open with 3 goals in a span of 36 seconds. Schlegel scored an unassisted goal, Law followed with a score 24 seconds later, and senior midfielder Brian Small (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) scored off the ensuing face-off to increase the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 9-1.

Schlegel added 2 more goals in the period and the Bishops finished the quarter with an 11-1 lead.

Schlegel led the Bishops with 4 goals and 3 assists, while Law finished with 3 goals. Gallagher, McCommons and senior midfielder Jason Balmer (Park City, Utah/Forman (Conn.) School) had 2 goals apiece.

Senior Paul McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover) had 8 saves in the first 54 minutes and freshman Ryan Perone (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) had 1 save in the last 6 minutes in the Ohio Wesleyan goal.

Sean O'Neill and Brad Harvey scored the Kenyon goals. Dave Neiman had 14 saves and Charlie Floeckher made 2 saves for the Lords.
