Ohio Wesleyan 68, Wooster 62

Senior post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) and senior wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) each hit a pair of free throws in the final minute to seal the win as Ohio Wesleyan edged Wooster in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Wooster.

Heil had put the Bishops ahead to stay, sinking a free throw with 12:45 left in regulation time to break a 40-40 tie. Freshman guard Molly Baker (Avon Lake) followed with a 3-pointer to hike the lead to 44-40, and after Sara Perry's free throw brought Wooster within 44-41, sophomore guard Rachel Messaros (Granville/Columbus Bishop Hartley) converted a 3-point play to give the Bishops a 47-41 lead with 11:09 left in regulation time.

Wooster kept the Bishops within reach, slicing the deficit to a single point when Alexis Louttit converted a 3-point play to make it a 52-51 game with 7:44 left in regulation time. The Fighting Scots trailed by one point on one other occasion but could not quite even the game.

The Scots came within 64-62 on Natalie Barone's free throw with 1:31 remaining. The teams traded scoreless possessions before Wooster misfired on its next trip down the court. Heil snagged the rebound and was fouled and sank both free throws to give Ohio Wesleyan a 66-62 lead with :16 to go.

On Wooster's next possession, a Scot 3-point try was off the mark and Brizendine cleared the defensive rebound and was fouled with :09 left. Brizendine hit both charity shots to account for the 68-62 final.

Brizendine led Ohio Wesleyan with 15 points and 9 rebounds, while Heil finished with 13 points.

Barone and Michelle Hall shared the Wooster lead with 11 points apiece. Carly Loehrke had a team-high 9 rebounds and Moreno led Kenyon with 14 points and Zeanah added 10 points and Vicki Meyer had a game-high 7 assists.
