Allegheny 83, Ohio Wesleyan 67

Meredith McDonough scored a pair of baskets and Valery Medwin added a 3-pointer as Allegheny opened the second half with a 9-0 run and went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.

McDonough had a bucket and a 3-point play and Katie Kestler added a 3-pointer as the Gators took a 10-2 lead.

Ohio Wesleyan rallied midway through the first half, getting a pair of baskets from senior post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) and another from senior wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) to close to within 24-19 with 9:04 left in the first half. The Bishops made it 29-26 on a basket by Heil with 3:57 to go in the period.

Meghan Vasilisin had 2 buckets as the Gators ended the half with a 6-2 run, and Allegheny's second-half run boosted the Gator advantage to 44-28 with 17:31 left in regulation time, and the lead would remain in double figures throughout the remainder of the game.

Brizendine led Ohio Wesleyan with 22 points. Heil added 16 points, grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds and shared the team lead with 4 assists. Sophomore guard Rachel Messaros (Granville/Columbus Bishop Hartley) scored 10 points and senior guard Celina Dopoulos (Strongsville) shared the team lead with 4 assists.

McDonough led Allegheny with 15 points. Courtney Steding added 14 points, Medwid and Murtagh scored 12 points apiece and Vasilisn had 11 points. Murtagh led the Gators with 7 rebounds and Steding had a team-high 6 assists.
