Wittenberg 68, Ohio Wesleyan 53

Megan Miller scored 9 points during a key 10-3 second half run and Ellie Stonecash hit 4 straight free throws during an 8-0 second-half run that helped Wittenberg pull away on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday in Springfield.

After trailing, 38-32, at halftime, the Bishops closed to within 40-39 on a 3-pointer by junior guard Amanda Nanney (Cincinnati/Mother of Mercy) with 16:11 left in regulation time.

Wittenberg got baskets from Emilie Schmid and Ali Rohlfs to take a 5-point lead, but Ohio Wesleyan came right back with hoops by senior post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) and senior guard Celina Dopoulos (Strongsville) to make it a 1-point game at 44-43 with 15:33 remaining.

Once again, Rohlfs and Schmid helped pad the Tiger lead, Rohlfs with a lay-in and Schmid with a 3-pointer, as Wittenberg stretched the margin to 49-43 with 14:00 to play, but the Bishops fought right back as Brizendine hit 2 free throws and added a bucket to again make it a single-possession game at 49-47 with 12:24 to go.

Miller responded with a 3-pointer and a lay-in in quick succession, then added 2 free throws as the Tigers scored 7 points in less than a minute. Miller's fast break lay-in with 9:21 to go capped the 10-3 run that gave Wittenberg a 59-50 lead.

Sophomore post Tifini Ray (Hilliard/Davidson) and Brizendine hit baskets that brought the Bishops back to within 61-56 with 7:02 remaining, but the Tigers put the game out of reach with the 8-0 run, capped by a pair of Brittany Landreth free throws that hiked the Wittenberg lead to 69-56 with 3:33 left.

Brizendine led the Bishops with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Ray finished with 11 points and a team-high 3 assists and freshman post Lauren Fazio (Westerville/South) scored a season-high 11 points.

Katie Gregorevich led Wittenberg with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Miller finished with 13 points and Rohlfs added 12 points.
