Ohio Wesleyan 61, Denison 40

Senior post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) scored 10 points as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 23-3 run and never looked back on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Denison on Friday at Granville.

Brizendine hit a jumper, senior wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) added a bucket and Brizendine scored again as the Bishops ran off the first 6 points of the game. Denison got on the scoreboard on a 3-pointer by Caitlin Krupka with 15:56 left in the first half, but the Bishops reeled off the next 17 points to put the game out of reach.

Heil started the run with a jumper on Ohio Wesleyan's next possession. Heil went to the line for 2 free throws with 13:06 left and hit the first but missed the second. Brizendine snared the offensive rebound and got the ball to freshman guard Kathleen Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington), who buried a 3-pointer to hike the Bishop lead to 12-3.

Sophomore post Tifini Ray (Hilliard/Davidson) followed with a 3-point play, Brizendine added another jumper and junior guard Amanda Nanney (Cincinnati/Mother of Mercy) sank a 3-pointer to make it a 19-3 game at the midway point of the first half, and Brizendine followed with 2 more buckets to give Ohio Wesleyan a 23-3 lead with 7:11 left in the period.

Denison ended the Bishop run when Sam Davis converted a 3-point play to bring the Big Red within 23-6 with 6:06 left in the first half, but Brizendine scored the next 3 baskets of the game and the Big Red would not come closer than 19 points during the remainder of the contest.

Brizendine led the Bishops with 22 points and shared the team lead with 10 rebounds. Heil also shared the team lead with 10 rebounds. Senior guard Celina Dopoulos (Strongsville) led the Bishops with 5 assists.

Krupka led Denison with 12 points. Kristen Sheffield and Lauren Vashaw shared the team lead with 6 boards apiece and Vashaw and Davis each had 2 assists for the Big Red.
