Ohio Wesleyan 80, Penn State-Altoona 63

Senior wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) scored 6 points as Ohio Wesleyan closed the first half with a 12-4 run and the Bishops pulled away in the second half to defeat Penn State-Altoona in first-round action of the Wilmington-Damon's Tip-Off Tournament on Friday at Wilmington.

Ohio Wesleyan advances to the championship game, where the Bishops will face the winner of Friday night's Wilmington-Bluffton clash.

With the Bishops leading, 28-23, with 5:15 left in the first half, Ohio Wesleyan widened the margin with baskets by sophomore post Tifini Ray (Hilliard/Davidson), senior post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) and junior guard Amanda Nanney (Cincinnati/Mother of Mercy) sandwiched around 3 Heil hoops.

The flurry extended the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 40-27 at the half, and the Bishops opened it up to a 55-35 margin on the strength of 6 points by Brizendine and 4 points by Ray. The Lions did not come closer than 16 points during the remainder of the game.

Heil led the Bishops with 33 points and shared the team lead with 9 rebounds, while Brizendine followed with 21 points and shared the team lead with 9 rebounds. Ray added 11 points and dished out a team-high 4 assists.

Brittany Poorman led Penn State-Altoona with 14 points. Tara Stock had 12 points and led the Lions with 5 rebounds. Lindsey Barr added 11 points. Krystal Ferry had a team-leading 5 assists.
