Wilmington 87, Ohio Wesleyan 54

Katie Streck had 2 baskets and Sam Hood drained a 3-pointer during a 13-0 run that gave Wilmington the lead for good and the Quakers went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in the championship game of the Wilmington-Damon's Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday at Wilmington.

Ohio Wesleyan and Wilmington, the defending NCAA Division III national champion, went toe-to-toe for most of the first half. The game was tied 8 times before senior post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) scored to give the Bishops a 28-26 lead with 7:14 left in the first half.

Hood hit a 3-pointer to return the lead to Wilmington, kicking off a 13-0 spurt. Streck had 2 baskets and Siobhan Zerilla and Kelly Peters also scored buckets during the run, which left the Quakers leading, 39-28, with 4:03 left in the half.

Senior wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) ended the Quaker run with a 3-pointer, but Hood responded with a 3-pointer of her own and Wilmington went on to a 49-33 halftime lead.

Sophomore post Tifini Ray (Hilliard/Davidson) opened the second half with a basket, but that was as close as the Bishops would come during the remainder of the contest.

Brizendine led Ohio Wesleyan with 18 points and shared the team lead with 7 rebounds. Heil led the Bishops with 3 assists and also shared the team lead with 7 rebounds.

Erica Smith topped the Quakers with 19 points, while Courtney Balser finished with 18 points and Zerilla added 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Heil and Brizendine represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team.
