Ohio Wesleyan 73, Bluffton 46

Senior wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) scored 6 points as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 16-3 run and went on to defeat Bluffton in non-conference action on Friday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Senior guard Celina Dopoulos (Strongsville) opened the game's scoring with a drive to the hoop on Ohio Wesleyan's first possession. Heil followed with a lay-in off a fast break and senior post Shelby Larson (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) drained a 12-foot jumper to give the Bishops a 6-0 lead.

Angie Lee drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key to put the Beavers on the scoreboard, but Ohio Wesleyan responded with 10 straight points that included a 3-pointer by Heil and baskets by sophomore post Tifini Ray (Hilliard/Davidson) and Larson.

Lindsay Bush ended the Bluffton drought with a lay-in with 11:22 left in the first half, but Ray and Dopoulos combined for 9 straight points, with Dopoulos contributing a 3-pointer and a free throw and Ray kicking in a 3-point play and a lay-in, as Ohio Wesleyan stretched its lead to 25-5 with 9:35 left in the first half.

The Bishops led by as many as 27 points in the first half and took a 40-17 lead into the locker room. Ohio Wesleyan's biggest lead of the game was 34 points, that coming with 4:37 left in the game when junior guard Jenny Johnson (Delaware/Hayes) sank a lay-in to cap a 10-0 run.

Heil led Ohio Wesleyan with 14 points, while Ray finished with 11 points. Senior post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and Dopoulos dished out a game-high 7 assists.

Bush led the Beavers with 11 points. Amanda Bell had a team-high 8 rebounds and Kelly Metzger led Bluffton with 3 assists.
