Ohio Wesleyan 65, Westminster 56

Senior guard Celina Dopoulos (Strongsville) and junior guard Amanda Nanney (Cincinnati/Mother of Mercy) each hit a 3-pointer to highlight a 10-0 run that helped the Bishops break open a non-conference win over Westminster on Thursday in New Wilmington, Pa.

With the Titans leading, 22-21, with 6 minutes left in the first half, senior wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) scored to put the Bishops ahead to stay and senior post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) followed with a bucket to give Ohio Wesleyan a 3-point lead.

Westminster closed to within 25-24 on Mary Jane Eaton's jumper with 4:34 remaining in the period, but Ohio Wesleyan went on its 10-0 run to stretch the lead.

Dopoulos sank a 3-pointer to kick off the spurt, and Heil followed with a steal and lay-in before Nanney's 3-pointer and a pair of Dopoulos free throws made it a 35-24 game with 1:39 left in the half.

Erica Tallo answered with a pair of baskets for the Titans, the first winding up the first half scoring at 35-26 and the second coming early in the second half and bringing Westminster within 35-28.

Sophomore post Tifini Ray (Hilliard/Davidson) responded with a basket and Heil added 2 more hoops to stretch the Bishop lead to 41-28 with 16:28 left in the game.

Westminster rallied once more, closing to within 55-48 on Nicole Fee's jumper with 4:17 left, but the Bishops responded with a Heil 3-point play and a Brizendine bucket to take a 12-point lead with less than 3 minutes to go.

Heil led Ohio Wesleyan with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Brizendine added 12 points and Dopoulos finished with 11 points.

Tallo led the Titans with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Fee added 15 points and Alyson Gasper led Westminster with 6 assists.
