Rowan 5, Ohio Wesleyan 4

March 17, 2006

Brian McLaughlin's 2-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted Rowan over Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference action on Friday in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Rowan had taken a 1-0 lead on a Bruce Reibis RBI single in the fourth, but the Bishops answered with 2 runs in the top of the fifth.

Sophomore shortstop Donnie Paul (Lewis Center/Olentangy) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and one out later, junior outfielder Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson) singled. One out later, freshman outfielder John Maggard (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) singled to load the bases. Junior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) lashed a single through the left side to score Paul and Ring and give the Bishops the lead.

The Profs tied the game in the fifth, collecting a pair of walks and a Frank Galetoa RBI single after 2 were out, and took a 4-2 lead in the sixth on a Paul Urbanovich RBI double and a Jim Comprelli RBI single.

Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 4-3 in the seventh as senior shortstop Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) led off with a walk, Maggard singled and Sherman sacrificed the runners to second and third before senior outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland) plated Williams with an infield out.

The Bishops tied the game in the ninth when Williams led off with a double, moved to third on a Maggard sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch.

Rowan got a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth. Ring came on in relief but was called for a balk to send the runner to second. After an intentional walk, Ohio Wesleyan cut down the lead runner at third base on an attempted sacrifice. A fly ball to deep center allowed the runners to tag up and move to second and third, and the Bishops intentionally walked the Profs' cleanup hitter to set the stage for Urbanovich.

Sophomore righthander Xander Jones (Pomfret, Conn./Pomfret School) started and worked the first 5.2 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4 runs. Sophomore lefthander Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) pitched into the ninth inning and was charged with the loss and Ring finished up on the mound for the Bishops
