Ohio Wesleyan 8, Hope 2
Ohio Wesleyan 5, Hope 1

March 18, 2006

Junior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) slammed 2 home runs in the opener and sophomore righthander Sean Speed (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) fired a 2-hitter in the nightcap as Ohio Wesleyan swept a non-conference doubleheader from Hope on Saturday in Port Charlotte, Fla.

The Flying Dutchmen took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener, but the Bishops broke the game open with 7 runs in the top of the fifth.

Senior outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland) led off with a single, and one out later, sophomore first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) singled. Junior first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason) sliced a double down the leftfield line to score Toney with the tying run, and sophomore shortstop Donnie Paul (Lewis Center/Olentangy) followed with a pinch-hit single to score Dote with the go-ahead run. One out later, senior shortstop Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) singled in a run and freshman outfielder John Maggard (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) followed with a run-scoring single before Sherman blasted a 3-run homer to cap the inning.

Sherman's solo shot in the seventh finished off the day's scoring.

Senior righthander Michael Krieger (Boardman) went the distance on the mound for the Bishops, scattering 5 hits.

In the nightcap, the Flying Dutchmen again took a 1-0 first-inning lead.

Williams evened the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the first, and Ohio Wesleyan went ahead to stay in the second as Bottichio doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Dote's ground out.

Dote scored a run in the fourth as he singled, moved to second on a sacrifice, took third on an infield out and scored on a Hope error.

The Bishops added 2 runs in the sixth as Dote again led off with a single, sophomore outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) doubled and the runs scored on a Williams sacrifice fly and a Maggard single.

Speed finished with a 2-hitter, blanking the Flying Dutchmen after allowing the first-inning run
