[ Sammy Hall ]Senior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside, Ill./Nazareth Academy) and junior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) drove in 5 runs apiece and senior righthander Michael Krieger (Boardman) and sophomore righthander Sean Speed (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) turned in fine pitching performances as Ohio Wesleyan swept a North Coast Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader from Earlham on Sunday at Littick Field.

The Bishops jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener when senior shortstop Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) singled, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on Sherman's single. Sherman then stole second and moved to third on a fly out. Hall was hit by a pitch, and he then took off for second and got caught in a rundown, with Sherman scoring before the tag was applied.

Junior outfielder Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson) singled in a run to give the Bishops a 3-0 lead in the second.

Earlham cut the deficit to 3-1 with a run in the fourth as Darren Parkevich doubled and scored on a double by Cal Wilson. The Quakers got the tying run on base when Justin Colanese reached on Hall's throwing error, but Krieger got out of the jam by inducing Eric Sturgeon to bounce into a force out at second.

Ohio Wesleyan widened its lead with 5 runs in the fifth, with Hall and freshman outfielder John Maggard (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) contributing RBI singles and sophomore first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) belting an RBI double, and the Bishops broke the game open with 6 runs in the sixth, highlighted by a 2-run Dote double and a 3-run homer by Ring.

Krieger worked the first 6.0 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 8 while walking 2. Senior righthander Billy Kampmann (Blairstown, N.J./Blair Academy) finished up on the mound.

In the nightcap, the Bishops took a 3-0 lead in the first inning without the benefit of a hit, collecting 4 walks and 2 hit batsmen. Ohio Wesleyan added 3 more runs in the second, with Sherman's 2-run double the big hit, and got a run in the fifth on Hall's RBI ground out.

Sophomore catcher Eric Stitzlein (Loudonville) and Hall homered and Sherman had a 2-run single to highlight Ohio Wesleyan's 7-run fifth inning, and in the Bishops' 7-run sixth frame, sophomore third baseman Caleb Douce (Caledonia/River Valley) had a 2-run single, senior outfielder Brian Gamble (Massillon/Perry) lined a 2-run triple and freshman shortstop Logan Hronis (Rocky River/St. Edward) cracked a 2-run homer.

Speed allowed only 1 hit over the first 6.0 innings, that on a shot up the middle by Colanese that hit Speed's foot and ricocheted into leftfield. Kampmann finished up on the mound
