Wittenberg 6, Ohio Wesleyan 2
Ohio Wesleyan 4, Wittenberg 3

April 2, 2006

Sophomore catcher Eric Stitzlein (Loudonville) drove in the game-winning run as Ohio Wesleyan rallied from a 3-0 deficit to nip Wittenberg in the nightcap of a North Coast Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader on Sunday in Springfield.

In the opener, Wittenberg broke a 2-2 tie with 3 runs in the fifth and went on to take the win.

The Tigers scored 3 times in the bottom of the first inning of the nightcap, plating runs on Andrew Wellman's infield out, Brian Hampp's infield grounder and Patrick Williams' RBI single.

Ohio Wesleyan got a run back in the top of the second as senior outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland) walked, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by junior righthander Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson).

Ring slammed a 2-run homer in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.

The Bishops took the lead in the sixth when sophomore outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) and Toney walked, moved up on a balk and Stitzlein followed with a single to score McDaniel, with Toney thrown out at the plate on the play.

Sophomore righthander Xander Jones (Pomfret, Conn./Pomfret School) pitched the complete game for the Bishops, scattering 6 hits, striking out 2 and walking 6.

Joel Puthoff was the loser in relief for Wittenberg.

Wittenberg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener on a sacrifice fly by K.R. Schlievert.

The Bishops answered in the top of the second as Sherman reached as an error and junior first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason), sophomore outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) and freshman catcher Ty Leavitt (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) walked to force in a run.

Wittenberg took a 2-1 lead on Hampp's leadoff homer in the second, but once again, the Bishops came back to tie it, this time on McDaniel's RBI single in the fourth.

The Tigers took the lead for good with 3 runs in the fifth, with Wellman's 2-run single the big hit, and added an insurance run in the sixth on Tyler Christello's RBI triple.

Sophomore first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) highlighted the Bishop offense, collecting 3 of Ohio Wesleyan's 4 hits.

Senior righthander Adam Dunn (Westerville/Worthington Christian) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.

Steve Less pitched the complete game for Wittenberg, holding the Bishops to 4 hits. He struck out 5 and walked 5
