Heidelberg 14, Ohio Wesleyan 4

A.J. Schlea hit 3 home runs to help Heidelberg take a 12-0 lead and the Student Princes went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference play on Tuesday at Littick Field.

Heidelberg had its first 4 batters reach base in the first inning, with one run scoring on a wild pitch and another on a passed ball. Biagio Boytim plated a run with an infield single as Heidelberg took a 3-0 lead.

The Student Princes added an unearned run in the second and tacked on 4 more in the third, with Schlea hitting a solo shot and Alex Rutter hitting a 2-run homer. Schlea hit a 3-run homer to highlight Heidelberg's 4-run fourth inning, increasing the Student Princes' lead to 12-0.

Ohio Wesleyan got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases as junior first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason) singled, sophomore infielder Donnie Paul (Lewis Center/Olentangy) walked and senior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside, Ill./Nazareth Academy) was hit by a pitch. Junior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) then reached on a fielding error by Heidelberg second baseman Seth Thompson, with Bottichio scoring on the play.

Schlea and Matt Decker hit solo homers in the fifth to wrap up the Heidelberg scoring.

Sherman hit a 2-run homer in the sixth and senior outfielder Brian Gamble (Massillon/Perry) ripped an RBI double in the ninth for the Bishops.

Freshman lefthander Rich Kurth (Raleigh, N.C./Blair (N.J.) Academy) was charged with the loss for the Bishops. Freshman righthander Anthony Lewis (Grove City) pitched 3.0 innings in relief, freshman righthander Kevin Miller (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) worked 5.0 innings and senior righthander Michael Krieger (Boardman) pitched a scoreless ninth.

Steve Calevro was the starting and winning pitcher for Heidelberg.
