Ohio Wesleyan 7, Denison 3
Denison 4, Ohio Wesleyan 3

April 8, 2006

Junior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) ripped a 2-run double to highlight a 4-run first inning that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a win over Denison in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader on Saturday in Granville.

In the nightcap, Denison rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take the win and salvage a split.

Senior shortstop Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) and sophomore first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) opened the first inning of the opener with singles, bringing up Sherman, who plated both runners with a double. Senior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside, Ill./Nazareth Academy) doubled Sherman over to third, and junior first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason) singled to load the bases. Sherman then scored on a wild pitch and junior outfielder Sean Ring (Hillard/Davidson) singled home Hall for a 4-0 Bishop lead.

Denison got on the scoreboard on Tim LaBolt's RBI single in the second.

Ohio Wesleyan hiked its lead to 6-1 with a pair of runs in the fourth, getting an RBI triple from senior outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland) and an RBI double by Bottichio.

LaBolt delivered another RBI single for Denison in the fourth, but the Bishops got that run back in the sixth on another RBI single by Ring.

Senior righthander Michael Krieger (Boardman) worked the first 5.1 innings, scattering 8 hits, striking out 8 and walking 4. Senior righthander Adam Dunn (Westerville/Worthington Christian) came on in the sixth and finished up for his first save of the season.

Dallas Puskar was the starting and losing pitcher for Denison.

The Bishops took another early lead in the second game, going up 1-0 in the second inning on a leadoff triple by Toney and an RBI ground out by Hall.

Ohio Wesleyan stretched its lead to 3-0 in the third. Sophomore outfielder Josh Wheeler (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) reached on an error by Big Red shortstop Chris Day, Williams followed with a triple, and Dote plated Williams with a single.

Day atoned by driving in a run in the fourth inning, bringing the Big Red within 4-1, and Denison took the lead in the fifth. LaBolt led off with a single, and one out later, Andy Johnson singled and Andrew Pakla followed with a single to make it a 4-2 game. A.J. Jezierski followed with a walk to load the bases, Lee Fischer singled in the tying run and the go-ahead run scored on a wild pitch.

Ohio Wesleyan got the tying run on base in both the sixth and seventh innings, but the Bishops were not able to advance the runner into scoring position.

Dote and Ring had 2 hits apiece for Ohio Wesleyan.

Sophomore righthander Sean Speed (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) pitched the complete game for the Bishops, allowing 8 hits, striking out 5 and walking 1.

J.D. Wyborny pitched the complete game for Denison
