Sophomore first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) and junior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) tied school records to lead Ohio Wesleyan to a win over Denison in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader on Sunday in Granville.

In the nightcap, the Bishops erupted for a season-high 10 runs in the fifth inning and went on to complete the sweep.

Dote went 5-for-6 with 4 runs scored and 5 RBI in the opener. The 5 hits tied a school record accomplished numerous times, most recently by Drew Caravella and Travis Falk against Salve Regina in 2002.

Sherman went 4-for-6 with 6 RBI in the opener. Included among his 4 hits were 2 triples, tying the school record accomplished numerous times, most recently by Mark Wherry against Nichols in 2001.

The Bishops jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, collecting RBI singles from Sherman, senior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside, Ill./Nazareth Academy) and junior outfielder Sean Ring (Hillard/Davidson), and added 2 more runs in the second on RBI singles by Sherman and senior outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland).

Denison got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second on an RBI triple by Tim LaBolt, and closed to within 6-2 on LaBolt's sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Ohio Wesleyan broke the game open with 9 runs in the fifth, highlighted by Dote's RBI single, Sherman's 3-run triple and a 2-run double by junior first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason).

The Bishops added 3 runs in the sixth, with Dote contributing an RBI double and Sherman an RBI triple, and Dote finished off the scoring with a 3-run homer in the seventh.

Senior righthander Adam Dunn (Westerville/Worthington Christian) went the distance on the mound for Ohio Wesleyan, scattering 7 hits and striking out 3 while walking one.

In the nightcap, LaBolt gave the Big Red a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first and Denison added an unearned run in the third for a 2-0 advantage.

The Bishops came up with 10 in the fifth, racking up 10 hits in the inning. Sherman and Ring each had 2-run singles, and Hall and senior shortstop Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) also had RBI singles.
Sophomore infielder Donnie Paul (Lewis Center/Olentangy) and sophomore outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto), who entered the game as pinch-hitters to start the inning, each had 2 hits and an RBI during the rally.

Dote added an RBI single in the seventh to wrap up the Bishop scoring.

Sherman went 4-for-5 in the nightcap. On the day, he was 8-for-11 with 8 RBI.

Sophomore righthander Xander Jones (Pomfret, Conn./Pomfret School) was the winning pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan. Jones finished with a 2-hitter, striking out 7 and walking 3
