Ohio Wesleyan 10, Ohio Dominican 9

April 19, 2006

[ Sammy Hall ]Senior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside, Ill./Nazareth Academy) blasted a 3-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning that lifted Ohio Wesleyan over Ohio Dominican in non-conference action on Wednesday at Littick Field.

With the Bishops trailing, 8-7, sophomore second baseman Jerrell Johnson (Shaker Heights) drew a one-out walk and sophomore first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) was hit by a pitch, setting the table for Hall, whose blast to center gave Ohio Wesleyan a 10-8 lead.

The Panthers threatened in the top of the ninth, with Phil Franks greeting senior righthander Adam Dunn (Westerville/Worthington Christian) with a leadoff double and K.C. Warden following with a single to bring Ohio Dominican within 10-9. Dunn battled back to retire the side and nail down his second save of the season.

The teams traded first-inning runs, Ohio Dominican scoring on Joe Janusik's RBI double and the Bishops returning the favor on Dote's sacrifice fly.

Warden led off the second with a home run and the Panthers tacked on 3 more runs in the second with the assistance of a pair of Bishop errors, and added a run in the fourth on Janusik's sacrifice fly.

Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 6-3 in the fourth on an RBI double by junior first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason), tied the game in the fifth with the help of RBI singles by junior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) and freshman catcher Ty Leavitt (Worthington/Thomas Worthington), and took a 7-6 lead in the sixth on Sherman's RBI single.

The Panthers tied the game in the seventh when Warden greeted senior righthander Billy Kampmann (Blairstown, N.J./Blair Academy) with a leadoff homer and pulled ahead, 8-7, in the eighth when Tristan Ribar led off with a home run.

Senior shortstop Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) went 3-for-5 with 3 runs scored, while freshman outfielder John Maggard (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) and Sherman each were 3-for-4.

Senior righthander Michael Krieger (Boardman) worked the first 6.0 innings, allowing 9 hits and striking out 3. Freshman righthander Kevin Miller (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) picked up the win in relief.

Seth Craft was charged with the loss in relief for Ohio Dominican
