8th of 15 at Greensboro Fall Classic

Senior Doug McCullough (Sleepy Hollow, Ill./St. Edward) led Ohio Wesleyan at the Greensboro College Invitational, held on Monday and Tuesday at the Meadowlands Golf Course in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Guilford won the tournament with a 585, finishing one shot ahead of Huntingdon and 2 strokes ahead of 2-time defending champion Methodist. Host Greensboro finished fourth with a 590, followed by Oglethorpe (592), LaGrange (598), Emory (600), Ohio Wesleyan (605) and Christopher Newport (606). Randolph-Macon rounded out the top 10 with a 619, followed by Washington & Lee (621), Bridgewater (630), Averett (631), Ferrum (643) and North Carolina Wesleyan (760).

Nathaniel James of Washington & Lee, Rocky Manning of Greensboro and Bennett Maki finished in a 3-way tie for medalist honors when the playoff among the 3 golfers was halted because of darkness. As on the first day, the event was delayed for more than 2 hours because of inclement weather.

McCullough finished in an 11th-place tie among individuals with a 2-day total of 146. Freshman Andy Schillig (Pataskala/Licking Heights) tied for 24th place with a 150, senior Justin Schroeder (Shelby) and sophomore Rory Hotaling (Yellow Springs) tied for 49th place at 157 and freshman Kyle Martin (Dublin/Wellington) tied for 52nd place with a 158.
