Ohio Wesleyan 64, Capital 57

[ Bryan King ]Senior guard Bryan King (Sidney) buried back-to-back 3-pointers to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay and the Bishops put the game away at the free throw line in taking a non-conference win over Capital on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

After Capital had erased a 7-point second-half deficit to tie the game at 52-52, Capital's Matty Owens had given the Crusaders a 53-52 lead by hitting the second of 2 free throws with 3:43 left in regulation time.

On the Bishops' next possession, King drilled a 3-pointer for a 55-53 Ohio Wesleyan lead, and after a Capital turnover, King buried another 3-pointer for a 58-53 margin with 2:58 to go.

Sophomore post Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs) followed with a pair of free throws to restore the 7-point margin with 1:34 remaining, but Capital's Steve Kyser scored to bring the Crusaders within 60-55.

Senior guard Ross Rybarczyk (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) and senior wing Andy Warnock (Delaware/Hayes) hit free throws to once again make it a 7-point game, and after Capital's Brian Alge scored to make it a 62-57 contest with :14 to play, King and junior wing Ted Uritus (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) sank free throws to account for the final margin.

Ohio Wesleyan led by as many as 9 points during the first half, using a 14-4 run to turn a 15-14 Capital lead into a 28-19 Bishop advantage. Rudegeair and King hit 3-pointers and sophomore post Jesse Jean (Alexandria, Va./Hyde (Conn.) School) scored 6 points to highlight the Bishop run.

Kyser and David Johnson scored in the last minute of the first half to bring Capital within 31-27 at the intermission, and the Crusaders closed to within 31-29 on Nate Stahl's lay-in to open the second-half scoring.

Warnock hit a lay-in and junior post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) added a 3-pointer as Ohio Wesleyan built a 38-31 lead 3 minutes into the second half, but Capital rallied, getting 4 points from Johnson and a lay-in by Jake Meisler that tied the game at 40-40 with 12:39 to go. From there, neither team led by more than 4 points until King's back-to-back 3-pointers.

Rudegeair led the Bishops with 14 points and 7 rebounds, while King finished with 10 points. Rybarczyk dished out a team-high 5 assists

Kyser led Capital with 15 points and Johnson had 10 points. Stahl, Owens and Meisler shared the team lead with 5 rebounds apiece and Johnson led the Crusaders with 3 assists
