Ohio Wesleyan 84, Thomas More 67

Senior wing Andy Warnock (Delaware/Hayes) scored 5 points and junior post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) had 4 points to highlight a 17-0 first-half run that helped Ohio Wesleyan break open a win over Thomas More in the first round of the Otterbein "O" Club Classic on Thursday in Westerville.

The Bishops will face host Otterbein in the tournament's championship game at 8 p.m. on Friday at the Rike Center on the Otterbein College campus. Otterbein defeated Nazareth, 85-61, in Thursday's other first-round contest.

With the Saints holding a 9-8 lead just under 4 minutes into the game, Ohio Wesleyan went on a 10-2 run to take the lead for good. Warnock started things off with a 3-pointer and a Chojnacki tip-in gave the Bishops a 13-9 lead. Thomas More closed to within 13-11 on a pair of Matt Tierney free throws, but the Bishops answered with a pair of free throws by freshman wing Kyle Holliday (Van Wert) and a 3-pointer by junior guard Matt Shirer (Medina).

Thomas More closed to within 20-16 on Brandon Bolden's 3-pointer with 11:09 remaining before the Bishops scored the next 17 points. Holliday's lay-in started off the run, and Shirer followed with a 3-pointer before Chojnacki hit back-to-back lay-ins. Sophomore post Ryan Rozak (Fairview Park/Fairview) added a free throw for a 30-16 margin, then Warnock buried a 3-pointer and Holliday canned a jumper before Warnock finished off the run with a fast break lay-in.

Ohio Wesleyan took a 40-22 lead into the locker room, and the closest that Thomas More would come during the second half was 15 points.

Warnock led the Bishops with 15 points, while Chojnacki finished with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds and Holliday scored 10 points. Sophomore guard Casey Teeters (Westerville/Columbus St. Charles) led the Bishops with 5 assists.

E.J. Haynes led Thomas More with 15 points and shared the team lead with 9 boards. Michael Selm and Mark Lucas scored 11 points apiece and R.K. Thurman also shared the team lead with 9 rebounds. Jeremy Abell led the Saints with 4 assists.
