Ohio Wesleyan 8, Kenyon 7

Freshman attacker Karl Zimmerman (Utica, Mich./Brother Rice) scored 3 goals as Ohio Wesleyan went on a 4-1 run to break a 4-4 halftime tie and take the lead for good in a North Coast Athletic Conference decision over Kenyon on Saturday in Gambier.

Zimmerman scored off a feed from sophomore midfielder Chris Eccles (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) just 1:07 into the second half to give the Bishops a 5-4 lead.

Zimmerman added another goal, this one off a pass from senior midfielder Kevin Lakani (Riverwoods, IL/Loyola Academy), midway through the third period to make it 6-4.

Kenyon answered with a score by Sean O'Neill, but the Bishops responded with a pair of goals just :16 apart later in the quarter. Senior attacker Jarred Law (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) scored with 2:36 left in the third quarter, then Zimmerman scored off a Lakani pass with 2:20 on the clock for an 8-5 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

The Lords closed to within 8-6 on Brad Harvey's goal with 5:23 left in regulation time, and Luke Larson brought Kenyon within 8-7 with a score with 2:01 left to play, but the Bishops held off the Kenyon rally.

Ohio Wesleyan had taken an early 1-0 lead on a score by senior midfielder Chris Riehl (Columbus/Upper Arlington), but Adam Kleinman countered for Kenyon and the first quarter ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Lords then reeled off 3 more goals early in the second quarter, with Harvey scoring in the first minute of the period, Larson adding a score 38 seconds later and Harvey scoring again 38 seconds after that.

Eccles then sparked a Bishop comeback, scoring an unassisted goal and then setting up scores by Law and freshman midfielder Phillip Johnson (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit) as Ohio Wesleyan pulled into a 4-4 tie at halftime.

Zimmerman led the Bishops with 3 goals, while Law scored twice and Eccles compiled a goal and 3 assists.

Harvey led Kenyon with 3 goals and Larson scored 2 goals.

Sophomore Ryan Perone (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) had 13 saves in the Bishop goal.

Charlie Floeckher had 13 saves for Kenyon.
