2nd of 8 at GLCA championship

Sophomore Matt Kempton (Fredericktown) led Ohio Wesleyan to a second-place finish at the Great Lakes Colleges Association championship meet on Saturday in Albion, Mich.

Host Albion won the meet with a total of 47 points to 81 for the second-place Battling Bishops. Oberlin was third with 86 points, followed by Denison (95), Wabash (120), Kenyon (135), Earlham (167) and Kalamazoo (181).

Kempton finished in seventh place among individuals, covering the 8000-meter course in 27:12. Junior Seth Moore (Xenia/Yellow Springs) placed 13th in 27:35, freshman David Stefanik (Wooster) was 19th in 27:48, freshman Clay Davis (Dublin/Coffman) followed in 20th place in 27:49 and junior Doug Sampson (Ridgewood, N.J.) completed the Bishop scoring with a 22nd-place finish in 27:56. Junior Kevin Goehring (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) finished 25th in 28:00 and junior Will Crabtree (Winchester, Mass.) was 29th in 28:12.
