1st of 6 at Marietta Broughton Invitational

Junior Matt Kempton (Fredericktown) won individual honors to lead Ohio Wesleyan to a first-place finish at the the Carl Broughton Invitational, hosted by Marietta College on Saturday at Marietta.

Ohio Wesleyan took the first 3 places and had 7 runners finish among the top 10. The Battling Bishops won the meet with 19 points to 63 for runner-up Marietta. Wittenberg was third with 72 points, followed by Fairmont State (116), Muskingum (137) and Ohio Valley (151).

Kempton completed the 8000-meter course in 27:42.78. Junior Seth Moore (Xenia/Yellow Springs) was second in 27:58.12 and freshman David Stefanik (Wooster) was third in 28:08.34.

Freshman Clay Davis (Dublin/Coffman) came in sixth in a time of 28:47.93, junior Kevin Goehring (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) finished seventh in 28:54.46, junior Doug Sampson (Ridgewood, N.J.) followed in eighth place in 29:04.52 and junior Will Crabtree (Winchester, Mass.) was ninth in 29:21.28.
