Ohio Wesleyan 65, Westminster 50

Sophomore post Kelli Lester (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) scored to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay and senior guard Amanda Nanney (Cincinnati/Mother of Mercy) had 5 points to highlight a 15-5 second-half run that helped the Bishops break open a non-conference win over Westminster on Monday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Titans ran off to an early 7-0 lead, with Emilee Ackerman scoring all 7 points. Ohio Wesleyan got on the scoreboard on a lay-in by sophomore post Malley Adamsky (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), but the Titans stretched their lead to 10-2 on a 3-pointer by Desiree Sterling.

Ohio Wesleyan trailed, 12-4, when the Bishops reeled off the next 9 points to take the lead. Adamsky hit a lay-in and a jumper, junior guard Emily Lloyd (Canton/Massillon Jackson) buried a 3-pointer and Nanney canned a jumper for a 13-12 Ohio Wesleyan lead with 12:44 left in the first half.

The Bishops would lead by as many as 7 during the first half, that at 30-23 on a free throw by freshman post Katie Hamilton (Marysville/Hilliard Darby) before Westminster rallied to within 32-30 at the intermission.

Ackerman tied the game at 32-32 with a pair of free throws with 17:35 left in regulation time before Ohio Wesleyan went on its 15-5 run. Lester started things off with a lay-in off a steal by Lloyd before sophomore guard Lindsey Macklin (Columbus/Bexley) hit a 3-pointer and Adamsky sank a lay-in. Westminster got a pair of free throws by Sterling, only to see the Bishops counter with a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Molly Baker (Avon Lake), then got a pair of free throws from Nicole Fee, only to see Nanney ring up a 3-pointer that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 45-36 lead. After a Gina Brunetti free throw for the Titans, the Bishops wrapped up the run with a Nanney basket for a 47-37 lead.

The Titans closed to within 7 points on 3 different occasions, the last at 53-46 on Sterling's lay-in with 5:38 to play, but Westminster would not score again until less than a minute remained, and by then, Ohio Wesleyan had built a 60-46 lead courtesy of a lay-in by sophomore guard Kathleen Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington), a Macklin 3-pointer and a Lester lay-in.

Nanney led the Bishops with 13 points, while Adamsky finished with a career-high 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting and Macklin also scored 10 points. Lester led the Bishops with 6 rebounds and senior guard Jamie Rea (Delaware/Hayes) had a team-high 6 assists.

Ackerman led the Titans with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Sterling finished with 14 points and Fee, Talley Felger and Brunetti shared the team lead with 2 assists apiece
