Kenyon 53, Ohio Wesleyan 50

Sophomore guard Steffi Graf (Poland/Seminary) hit a free throw to send the game into overtime, but Kenyon took the lead in the extra session and held on for a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday in Gambier.

Sophomore guard Kathleen Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) had given Ohio Wesleyan a 44-37 lead with a 3-pointer with 4:41 left in regulation time before Kenyon rallied. Eva George hit one of 2 from the line, then Hilary Gowins canned a jumper from the lane and Alisha Moreno hit a 3-pointer as the Ladies closed to within 44-43 with 2:18 to play. George then sank a jumper with :37 to play to give Kenyon a 45-44 lead.

Graf was fouled with :22 on the clock, and she hit the front end of a one-and-one but missed the second shot. Kenyon cleared the rebound but missed a pair of potential game-winning shots in the final 10 seconds, and the game went into overtime.

George hit a jumper to give the Ladies a 47-45 lead in the extra session, but Cooper answered with a free throw to bring the Bishops within 47-46. The teams traded baskets before Katy Zeanah hit a jumper from the lane with :50 to play and Moreno added a pair of free throws for a 53-48 lead with :10 left, allowing Kenyon to withstand Cooper's basket at the buzzer.

Kenyon had taken a 21-16 first-half lead only to see the Bishops erupt for 11 straight points. Graf and senior guard Amanda Nanney (Cincinnati/Mother of Mercy) started the run with 3-pointers, and Cooper followed with a jumper from the lane and a 3-pointer for a 27-21 Bishop lead with 2:11 left in the first half.

The Ladies came back to tie the game at 28-28 early in the second half, and it was tied again at 37-37 with 10:37 to play.

Ohio Wesleyan then held Kenyon off the scoreboard for more than 6 minutes while reeling off 7 straight points. The Bishops collected a bucket by freshman post Katie Hamilton (Marysville/Hilliard Darby) and a pair of free throws by junior guard Emily Lloyd (Canton/Massillon Jackson) before Cooper's 3-pointer made it 44-37 with 4:41 to play.

Lloyd led the Bishops with 12 points, while Cooper scored 11 points and snared a team-high 6 rebounds. Graf dished out a team-high 3 assists.

Moreno finished with 15 points and 3 assists to lead the Ladies, while Zeanah added 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and George kicked in 11 points.
