Ohio Wesleyan 84, Wooster 55

Junior guard Rachel Messaros (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) scored all 13 of her points during the second half and sophomore guard Lindsey Macklin (Columbus/Bexley) added 10 more after halftime as Ohio Wesleyan broke open a close game and defeated Wooster in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at Wooster.

After an evenly-played first half that saw them take a 27-24 lead into the locker room, the Bishops torched the twine to the tune of 55.9 percent during the second half, making 19 of 34 field goal attempts during the period.

Junior guard Emily Lloyd (Canton/Massillon Jackson) and sophomore Kathleen Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) hit 3-pointers early in the second half to start off the Bishop shooting display, but Wooster kept in the game with buckets by Kassandra Dobson and Vicki Meyer.

With the Bishops leading, 35-30, after a Dobson free throw, Macklin and senior guard Jamie Rea (Delaware/Hayes) hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Macklin added another bucket as Ohio Wesleyan stretched the lead to 43-30 in a span of just 30 seconds.

Ohio Wesleyan pulled away after that, getting 3-pointers from Messaros, senior guard Amanda Nanney (Cincinnati/Mother of Mercy), sophomore guard Steffi Graf (Poland/Seminary) and sophomore guard Molly Baker (Avon Lake) down the stretch.

Macklin led the Bishops with 14 points, going 6-for-6 from the field, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range. Messaros finished with 13 points, Baker scored 12 points and Lloyd added 10 points. Freshman post Laurel Lawson (Navarre/Fairless) led the Bishops with 7 rebounds and Rea dished out a team-high 7 assists.

Carly Loehrke led Wooster with 14 points. Dobson led the Fighting Scots with 7 rebounds and Meyer had a team-high 3 assists.
