Kenyon 66, Ohio Wesleyan 58

Sophomore guard Steffi Graf (Poland/Seminary) scored 11 points and junior guard Rachel Messaros (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) had 10 points as Ohio Wesleyan took a 40-33 halftime lead, but Kenyon opened the second half with a 16-4 run and went on to a North Coast Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal win on Tuesday in Gambier.

With Kenyon holding a 9-8 lead, the Bishops got back-to-back 3-pointers from sophomore guard Molly Baker (Avon Lake) and Messaros to kick off a 13-2 run. Freshman post Katie Hamilton (Marysville/Hilliard Darby) added a pair of free throws and sophomore guard Kathleen Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) buried a 3-pointer and followed with a jumper in the lane for a 21-11 Bishop lead with 10:28 left in the first half.

Kenyon scored the next 7 points on a jumper and a pair of free throws by Eva George and a 3-pointer by Alisha Moreno, and the Ladies rallied to take a 31-29 lead on Megan Sheasby's 3-pointer with 4:53 left in the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan then reeled off the next 11 points, with Cooper hitting a jumper from the lane, Graf converting a 3-point play, sophomore guard Lindsey Macklin (Columbus/Bexley) adding a jumper and Messaros kicking in a free throw and a 3-pointer, the latter putting the Bishops ahead, 40-31, with 1:06 left in the half.

Kenyon got 2 more free throws by George to make it a 40-33 game at the intermission.

During the first half, the Bishops shot 61.9 percent from the field (13 of 21), including a sizzling 66.7 (8 of 12) from 3-point range.

Kenyon scored the first 9 points of the second half, collecting a jumper from Katy Zeanah, a Moreno 3-pointer, a George jumper and another Zeanah basket to take a 42-40 lead with 16:30 left.

Ohio Wesleyan fought back with baskets by Graf and Messaros for a 44-42 Bishop lead, but the Ladies scored the next 9 points, with Hilary Gowins contributing a 3-pointer and a jumper from the lane.

The Bishops rallied to within 51-48 on a free throw by junior guard Emily Lloyd (Canton/Massillon Jackson) with 7:37 to go, and still were within 63-58 on Graf's basket with 2:10 to play, but the Ladies were able to clinch the game at the free throw line.

Graf led the Bishops with 18 points, while Messaros finished with 14 points. Senior guard Amanda Nanney (Cincinnati/Mother of Mercy) had a team-high 5 rebounds and Cooper led the Bishops with 2 assists.

George led Kenyon with 16 points and shared the team lead with 7 rebounds, Zeanah added 15 points and shared the team lead with 7 rebounds, Gowins added 11 points and Moreno finished with 10 points and a team-high 5 assists.
