Ohio Wesleyan will face Chatham in the Turkey Shoot consolation game on
Saturday. Marietta defeated Chatham, 83-71, in Friday's other first-round

The Falcons raced to an early 6-0 lead on a free throw and a basket by

stormed back to take an 8-6 advantage as sophomore guard Steffi Graf (Poland/Seminary)
buried a 3-pointer and sophomore
guard Molly Baker (Avon Lake) connected on a basket and a 3-pointer.
From
there, most of the rest of the first half was a back-and-forth affair
that featured 7 ties and 9 lead changes.
Notre Dame took the lead for good on the second of 2 free throws by Cierra
Malone, with the point giving the Falcons a 22-21 lead with 8:15 left
in the half. Hastings followed with a basket to make it a 24-21 game.
The Bishops pulled to within 24-23 on a pair of free throws by freshman
post Laurel Lawson (Navarre/Fairless), but King and Hastings fueled the
Falcons' first-half run, with Notre Dame taking a 41-27 lead on Hastings'
lay-in with :35 remaining.
Sophomore guard Kathleen Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) drained a 3-pointer
to bring the Bishops within 41-30 at halftime, and Cooper hit another
3-pointer and junior
guard Rachel Messaros (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) added a basket as
Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 43-38 with 16:12 left in regulation time.
Melisa Crook then fueled an 11-0 run for the Falcons, opening the spurt
with a 3-pointer and finishing it off with a basket that gave Notre Dame
a 54-38 lead with 12:03 to play.
The Bishops answered with a 14-2 burst, with junior guard Emily Lloyd
(Canton/Massillon Jackson) and sophomore post Kelli Lester (Pataskala/Watkins
Memorial) each contributing a basket and a 3-pointer. Lloyd's lay-in brought
Ohio Wesleyan within 56-52 with 7:18 remaining.
Notre Dame got a little breathing room by scoring the next 6 points, with
King getting a pair of baskets during that stretch.
Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 72-67 on Messaros' jumper with :34 to go,
but Ashley Carney iced the game with 4 straight free throws.
Lawson led the Bishops with 11 points and Cooper added 10 points. Sophomore
guard Lindsey Macklin (Columbus/Bexley) grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds
and senior point guard Jamie Rea (Delaware/Hayes) dished out a team-leading
5 assists.
