Central 9, Ohio Wesleyan 7

Central raced to a 7-1 second-inning lead and held on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference action on Monday at Port Charlotte, Fla.

The Dutch scored 4 times in the top of the first inning off junior lefthander Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto).

Ohio Wesleyan got on the board in the bottom of the frame on a leadoff homer by junior shortstop Donnie Paul (Lewis Center/Olentangy). Senior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) followed with a hit and junior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) walked to bring the tying run to the plate, but the Bishop rally ended there.

Jeremy Kippley's home run highlighted Central's 3-run second inning, increasing the Dutch lead to 7-1.

The Bishops chipped away at the deficit, scoring twice in the second and 3 times in the third to pull within 7-6, but the Dutch added single tallies in the sixth and seventh.

Paul, Sherman and senior outfielder Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson) had 2 hits apiece for Ohio Wesleyan.

McDaniel worked the first 5 innings and was charged with the loss. Freshman righthander Matthew Struble (Defiance/Edon) came on in the sixth and finished up on the hill.
