Junior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) drove in 3 runs, senior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) tied a school record and freshman righthander Tyler Smith (Bryan) fired a 2-hit shutout to lead Ohio Wesleyan over Greenville in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday in Port Charlotte, Fla.

The Bishops scored single runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings and iced the game with 3 runs in the seventh.

Sherman belted 2 triples in the game, tying the school record accomplished many times, including twice by Sherman during the 2006 season.

Freshman third baseman Jared Turner (Versailles) went 3-for-3 and knocked in 2 runs, freshman outfielder Dustin Rogers-Little (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, junior outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) was 3-for-5 with an RBI, and freshman catcher Steve Ruygrok (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) went 2-for-4.

Smith struck out 6 while allowing only 2 hits in posting his first collegiate shutout.

In the nightcap, the Panthers broke a scoreless tie with 3 runs in the fourth, and that cushion was enough for Greenville pitcher Matt Leefers, who limited the Bishops to 6 hits in working the complete game.

Sherman drove in the Ohio Wesleyan run, cutting the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, but Greenville got the run back in the top of the seventh.

Junior righthander Caleb Douce (Caledonia/River Valley) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan. Junior righthander Nick Horn (Dublin/Scioto) relieved in the fourth and junior righthander Donnie Paul (Lewis Center/Olentangy) came on in the seventh.
