Ohio Wesleyan 6, Hope 4

Junior outfielder Brent Wilkins (Fairview Park/Fairview) belted a 2-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Ohio Wesleyan to a non-conference win over Hope on Saturday at Port Charlotte, Fla.

The scheduled doubleheader was changed to a single 9-inning game because of time limitations.

Ohio Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead in the first when junior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) doubled home senior outfielder Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson), and later scored on a Flying Dutchmen error.

Hope closed to within 2-1, but the Bishops got that run back on an RBI single by freshman outfielder Dustin Rogers-Little (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School).

The Flying Dutchmen took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh.

The Bishops rallied in the bottom of the ninth when sophomore third baseman Matt Rhode (Port Clinton) led off with a single, moved to second on Rogers-Little's sacrifice and scored on Dote's 2-out single.

With 2 down in the bottom of the 10th, sophomore shortstop Logan Hronis (Rocky River/St. Edward) doubled and Wilkins ended matters with Ohio Wesleyan's first walk-off homer since April 20, 2006, when Tom Bottichio hit one against Muskingum.

Ring pitched the ninth and 10th innings to pick up the win in relief. Junior lefthander Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) started for the Bishops and worked the first 4.0 innings, and junior righthander Sean Speed (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) relieved in the fifth.

Mike Rogers started on the mound for Hope and pitched the first 5.0 innings.
Dustin Wuis relieved in the sixth and was charged with the loss in relief. The Flying Dutchmen hurlers combined to strike out 13 Bishop batters.
