Marietta 8, Ohio Wesleyan 4

Senior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) and junior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) smacked back-to-back RBI doubles to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 4-2, but Marietta held off the Bishop rally and took a non-conference win on Tuesday in Marietta.

The Pioneers took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, with Dominick Winters' 2-out, bases-loaded double the key hit.

Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 4-2 in the top of the third, with freshman outfielder Dustin Rogers-Little (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) collecting a 1-out single and Sherman and Dote delivering run-scoring doubles with 2 down.

Marietta got the 2 runs back in the bottom of the inning on Justin Merryman's 2-out, 2-run single, then added a run in the fourth on Joe Litke's 2-out single.

Senior outfielder Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson) lined an RBI single in the fifth and Dote came home on a wild pitch in the seventh to finish off the Bishop scoring.

Dote and Ring each had 2 hits to lead the Ohio Wesleyan offense.

Freshman righthander Tyler Smith (Bryan) worked the first 4.0 innings, allowing 7 hits and 7 runs, 4 of them earned, while striking out 2 and walking 3. Freshman righthander Matthew Struble (Defiance/Edon) pitched 2.0 innings in relief, allowing 2 hits and a run, and Ring finished up with 2.0 scoreless innings in relief.

Jason Baumler, who started and pitched the first 2.0 innings, was credited with the win for Marietta.
