Ohio Wesleyan 7, Capital 3

Senior outfielder Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson) slammed a 3-run homer to break a 1-1 tie and put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay in a non-conference win over Capital on Tuesday at Littick Field.

The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Jimmy Haas walked, stole second, moved to third on a balk and scored on a wild pitch.

Ohio Wesleyan evened the game in the third as junior shortstop Donnie Paul (Lewis Center/Olentangy) reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a triple by junior outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto).

With one down in the fourth, junior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) walked, senior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) singled and Ring followed with a 3-run shot to left to give Ohio Wesleyan a 4-1 lead.

The Bishops tacked on a run in the fifth on an RBI double by sophomore shortstop Logan Hronis (Rocky River/St. Edward) and 2 more in the seventh, one scoring on a wild pitch and another on a Hronis RBI ground out.

McDaniel and junior catcher Nick Collinger (Columbus/Whetstone) each had 2 hits for Ohio Wesleyan.

Freshman righthander Tyler Smith (Bryan) was the starting and winning pitcher, allowing 1 hit in a pre-arranged 4-inning stint. Junior righthander Xander Jones (Pomfret, Conn./Pomfret School) worked 4.0 innings and freshman righthander Matthew Struble (Defiance/Edon) pitched a scoreless ninth.

Nathan Raines was the starting and losing pitcher for Capital.
