Otterbein took a 2-0 lead in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Chris Kovanda was hit by a pitch to open the game, Ben Titus followed with a walk and Bobby Wright was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out. Chris Martin and Brian Hiscox followed with fly balls to rightfield to drive in runs for the Cardinals.

Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 2-1 in the third as junior second baseman Jerrell Johnson (Shaker Heights) singled, moved to second on an infield out by junior outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) and scored on a single by junior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne).

The Bishops tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth as senior outfielder Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson) singled and moved to second on an infield out by Paul. Freshman catcher Steve Ruygrok (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) followed with a grounder to the right side of the infield. Cardinal first baseman Wright dove to his right to try to stop the ball, but it trickled under his body and toward rightfield. Ring never stopped running, tearing around third and heading for the plate. Cardinal second baseman Tyler Rudman's throw home was wild and too late to get Ring, allowing Ruygrok to take second.

The Cardinals took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Hiscox led off with a double off the fence in right center. pinch-runner Bret Billhardt moved to third on a fly ball, and after an intentional walk to Pat Connor, Billhardt scored on a sacrifice fly by Rudman. Connor moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Brandon Mauck.

Ohio Wesleyan loaded the bases with one out in the eighth on singles by Dote, Hronis and Ring, and Paul singled to center to score Dote and Hronis, tying the game at 4-4, with Ring moving to third when Cardinal centerfielder Connor overran the ball, but the rally ended when Otterbein pitcher Dan Remenowsky induced Ruygrok to bounce into a double play.

Bobby Wright gave the Cardinals a 5-4 lead with a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth. Otterbein broke the game open with 4 more runs in the frame, loading the bases as Martin reached on Paul's throwing error and Jerry Tulga and Aaron Hutchison singled. Connor plated one run on a sacrifice fly, Rudman doubled in a run and Mauck singled home 2 runs.

Junior righthander Xander Jones (Pomfret, Conn./Pomfret School) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops. Jones no-hit the Cardinals through 4.0 innings and ended up allowing 7 hits in 7-plus innings, striking out 4 and walking 2.

Remenowsky worked the first 8.0 innings, allowing 10 hits and 4 runs while striking out 8 and walking none.
