The Bishops jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as junior outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) led off with a double. One out later, McDaniel was cut down at third trying to advance on an infield grounder by senior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto). Sherman moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Hronis's single up the middle.

Ohio Wesleyan assembled some 2-out lighting in the fourth inning. With 2 down, junior outfielder Brent Wilkins (Fairview Park/Fairview) drew a walk and junior second baseman Jerrell Johnson (Shaker Heights) lined a single. McDaniel followed with a single up the middle, scoring Wilkins, and junior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) followed with an infield single to load the bases. Sherman drew a walk to force home Johnson, and Hronis followed with a single to place Dote and McDaniel for a 5-0 Bishop lead.

Marietta got on the scoreboard on Tony Piconke's solo homer down the leftfield line in the sixth.

The Bishops got that run back in the top of the seventh as junior third baseman Donnie Paul (Lewis Center/Olentangy) led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice by Wilkins and scored on an error by Marietta first baseman Tom Doty.

The Pioneers answered with a solo homer by Cameron Cimino in the bottom of the seventh, closing to within 6-2, and chipped another run off the deficit in the eighth as Piconke led off with a double, Doty was hit by a pitch, Jeremy Reese singled to left to load the bases and Brennan Cribbins flied to deep right center to score Cimino.

Ohio Wesleyan threatened to put the game out of reach on the top of the ninth as Johnson lined a 2-out double and McDaniel walked. Dote followed with a single, scoring Johnson, and Sherman drove a rocket to rightfield, where Pioneer rightfielder Kristian DeJeet made a running, over-the-shoulder catch to keep the score 7-3.

Marietta got 2 runners on in the bottom of the ninth, but freshman righthander Matthew Struble (Defiance/Edon) worked out of the jam, striking out Doty to end the game.

Hronis was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI to spearhead the Ohio Wesleyan offense. McDaniel and Johnson each went 3-for-5, while Dote was 2-for-4.

Junior righthander Xander Jones (Pomfret, Conn./Pomfret School), who had blanked the Pioneers on 5 hits through the first 5.0 innings, worked 7-plus innings, striking out 8 and walking none, to record the win. Struble pitched the final 2.0 innings, striking out 4 and walking none, to pick up his second save of the regional.

Dave Van Voorhees was the starting and losing pitcher for Marietta.
