Oberlin 2, Ohio Wesleyan 1

Senior attacker Abbey Kelley (West Bloomfield, Mich./Mercy) scored to wipe out a 1-0 deficit, but Oberlin answered with a goal late in the first half and held on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday in Oberlin.

The Yeowomen took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Claire Cheney with 10:48 left in the first half.

Kelley's unassisted goal came on a shot from the right side and evened the game with 9:49 remaining until halftime.

Christine Politis then scored off a shot from the left side with 4:28 to play in the period, giving Oberlin the lead for good. Ashley Allen was credited with an assist on the play.

Ohio Wesleyan threatened during the second half, but could not translate that into the tying goal. The Bishops earned a penalty corner in the closing seconds of regulation, then received another corner after that, but could not get off a shot to send the game into overtime.

Oberlin outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 27-16. Junior Katie Jones (Pine Plains, N.Y./Stissing Mountain) had 15 saves in the Bishop cage, while Lauren Malinowski finished with 9 saves.
