1st of 10 at Muskingum Invitational

Sophomore Andy Schillig (Pataskala/Licking Heights) and freshman Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) shared medalist honors as Ohio Wesleyan won the Muskingum Invitational, hosted by Muskingum College on Friday and Saturday at EagleSticks Golf Club in Zanesville.

Ohio Wesleyan won the tournament with a total of 583, defeating Baldwin-Wallace by 10 shots. Muskingum finished third with a 603, followed by Mount Union (605), Denison (619), Capital (622), Heidelberg (629), Ohio Northern (631), Wilmington (644) and Kenyon (712).

Schillig and Chiero each finished with a 143, with the duo sharing medalist honors as darkness precluded a playoff.

Sophomore Kyle Martin (Dublin/Wellington) tied for third place among individuals with a 144, senior Doug McCullough (Sleepy Hollow, Ill./St. Edward) finished in seventh place with a 146, junior Rory Hotaling (Yellow Springs) tied for 18th place at 151, and sophomore Jeff Nieman (Maineville/Cincinnati Moeller) finished in 22nd place with a 152.

Along with Chiero, Ohio Wesleyan golfers competing as individuals included freshman Jordan Benner (Beavercreek) and freshman Mike Sarap (Cambridge), who tied for third place at 144; freshman Peter Joyce (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), who tied for sixth place with a 145; and sophomore Adam Claytor (Columbus/Wellington), who tied for 18th place at 151.
