3rd at NCAA Division III championships

Sophomore Jeff Nieman (Maineville/Cincinnati Moeller) led Ohio Wesleyan to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III championship tournament, hosted by Anderson University on Friday at Prairie View Golf Club and Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Indianapolis.

Ohio Wesleyan finished in third place in the team standings with a 1217, 13 shots behind St. John's (Minn.), which shot a 303 on Friday to win the team championship with a total of 1204. LaVerne (Calif.) carded a 299 on Friday to hold off Ohio Wesleyan for second place, finishing at 1216, 1 shot ahead of Ohio Wesleyan. Huntingdon was fourth at 1227 and Oglethorpe was fifth at 1236.

The third-place finish matches Ohio Wesleyan's best national showing under head coach Jon Whithaus. The Battling Bishops tied for third place in 2003.

Nieman finished in fourth place among individuals after firing a final-round 73 to finish with a total of 296.

Sophomore Andy Schillig (Pataskala/Licking Heights) shot a 73 on Friday and finished in 10th place at 303.

Sophomore Kyle Martin (Dublin/Wellington) carded a final-round 81 and tied for 40th place with a 313, senior Doug McCullough (Sleepy Hollow, Ill./St. Edward) fired a 73 on Friday and tied for 62nd place at 316, and freshman Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) finished with an 80 on Friday and tied for 68th place at 317.
