1st of 10 at Hiram Fall Invitational

Sophomore Jeff Nieman (Maineville/Cincinnati Moeller) led the Bishops at the Hiram Fall Invitational, hosted by Hiram College on Saturday and Sunday at Fowlers Mill Golf Club.

The 36-hole event was the first of 3 regular-season tournaments to be played under the North Coast Athletic Conference's new system. With the advent of the automatic qualifying system for the NCAA Division III championships, the NCAC champion will now be determined by the top finisher for all rounds completed at the three 36-hole regular-season events and the 54-hole conference tournament. The NCAC's second regular-season event will be hosted by Wittenberg and is scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct. 1, while Ohio Wesleyan will host the third event on April 21-22, 2007. Wooster will host the NCAC tournament on May 5-6, 2007.

Ohio Wesleyan won the tournament with a 607. Allegheny finished second with a 611, and Wooster was third at 627. Mount Union finished fourth with a 632, followed by Wittenberg (635), Denison (649), Wabash (666), Hiram (674), Kenyon (724) and Lake Erie (778).

Nieman tied for fourth place among individuals with an 8-over-par 152. Freshman Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) finished sixth at 153, sophomore Kyle Martin (Dublin/Wellington) and sophomore Andy Schillig (Pataskala/Licking Heights) tied for seventh place at 154 and junior Rory Hotaling (Yellow Springs) tied for 17th place with a 159.
