1st of 10 at Wittenberg Fall Invitational

Sophomores Kyle Martin (Dublin/Wellington) and Jeff Nieman (Maineville/Cincinnati Moeller) led the Bishops at the Wittenberg Fall Invitational, hosted by Wittenberg University on Saturday and Sunday at Windy Knoll Golf Club and Reid Park Golf Club in Springfield.

The 36-hole event was the second of 3 regular-season tournaments to be played under the North Coast Athletic Conference's new system. With the advent of the automatic qualifying system for the NCAA Division III championships, the NCAC champion will now be determined by the top finisher for all rounds completed at the three 36-hole regular-season events and the 54-hole conference tournament. The NCAC's first regular-season event was hosted by Hiram on Sept. 16-17, while Ohio Wesleyan will host the third event on April 21-22, 2007. Wooster will host the NCAC tournament on May 5-6, 2007.

Ohio Wesleyan won the tournament with a 604. Allegheny finished second with a 610, and Otterbein was third at 613. Wittenberg finished fourth with a 642, followed by Denison (646), Wooster (648), Hiram (675), Wabash (681), Kenyon (697) and Miami-Hamilton (702).

Martin and Nieman tied for second place among individuals, each with a 6-over-par 149. Sophomore Adam Claytor (Columbus/Wellington) finished seventh at 152, freshman Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) tied for 13th place with a 157 and freshman Jordan Benner (Beavercreek) tied for 19th place at 159.
