Ohio Wesleyan 74, Wabash 50

Senior post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) scored 6 points during a 13-2 first-half run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay and the Bishops pulled away in the second half to take a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wabash on Wednesday night in Crawfordsville, Ind.

Wabash had taken a 7-6 lead on a jumper by Andy Root just under 3 minutes into the game.

The Bishops took the lead on a fast break jumper by senior wing Matt Shirer (Medina) and senior wing Ted Uritus (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) followed with a 3-pointer. Chojnacki added a lay-in, and after Root hit a lay-in for Wabash, Chojnacki answered with another lay-in. Junior post Jesse Jean (Alexandria, Va./Hyde (Conn.) School) and Chojnacki added scores to give Ohio Wesleyan a 19-9 lead with 12:22 left in the first half.

The Little Giants closed to within 7 points on a pair of occasions, and were still within 25-16 on Andrew Zimmer's lay-in with 8:01 left in the half, but sophomore wing Kyle Holliday (Van Wert), junior wing Brian Cafarella (Westerville/North) and Chojnacki buried 3-pointers to help the Bishops extend their lead to 36-18 with 3:26 remaining in the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan held the 18-point lead at halftime, taking a 38-20 edge into the locker room, and after Chojnacki opened the second half with a 3-pointer, the Bishops would lead by at least 20 points throughout the remainder of the contest.

Chojnacki led the Bishops with 23 points. Junior post Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs) added 22 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, and freshman guard Robby Gardiner (Dublin/Coffman) led the Bishops with 5 assists.

Zimmer led Wabash with 16 points and 6 rebounds, while Root and Aaron Brock added 10 points apiece.
